A family collage has different people to cut between. A holiday collage has different places. A couple collage has two faces and nothing else, so six photos of the two of you smiling at a camera is six versions of one picture. The fix is not more photos, it is different kinds of photo, and there are only about four kinds worth having.

1. Four kinds, not six photos

The solo photo is the surprising entry and it earns its place: a collage of nothing but couple shots is a statement about the couple, and one photo of a person on their own turns it into a story about two people who chose each other. It also breaks the rhythm of two faces, two faces, two faces.
2. Change the distance, not the pose
Most couple photos are taken at the same distance, arm's length, because most of them are taken by one of the two people in them. Six photos at arm's length are six identical compositions whatever the background.
Mix one close and one far. A photo where you fill the frame and one where you are two small figures on a beach do more for a collage than any arrangement will.
Give the far one a large cell. It has the detail to survive it, and a wide photo shrunk into a small cell loses exactly the scale it was there for.
3. Not accidentally a wedding
A couple collage in cream and script type is a wedding announcement whether or not anybody meant it. That is fine when it is one, and awkward when it is a Tuesday.
Script, cream and soft rounding read as a wedding. Use them when it is one.
Plain white with square corners, or a warm gradient read as an ordinary good year together, which is usually the truth and is the harder tone to hit.
Black and white is the third option, and it is the one that suits photos taken over several years on different phones.
4. Make one
Pick a collage above and it opens ready. Before swapping the photos in, count how many are the two of you at arm's length looking at the camera. If it is more than one, that is the edit worth making.
